A Doll Showcase, Shading and Fandom!

Got a nice surprise last Thursday.... A blogging friend of mine made a lovely post showcasing my art dolls. Thank you, Miss Rhissanna!

Check it out here: Dollmaker on Thursday
And be sure to click on her etsy link while you are there as she is a very talented dollmaker herself :)

Hmmmm.... updates. Well of course I'm still working on this painting. Got back on it yesterday and the shading just started flowing. It's so much easier to shade with acrylics than I thought and I can't wait to incorporate this new skill into my art dolls and sculpts.....
Want to finish this soon! Just a little more to go... some fine lines, more shading, fix her nose, his bangs and ears and add highlights to the hair and I'm done. Oh and figure out how to add lashes :)

I've also been inspired to make a Fan doll or sculpture. Leaning more towards a sculpture. I love the movie "Bronson" and I'm a huge fan of the British actor Tom Hardy. Facebook friends are sure to know this! lol He's such an amazing actor and more Americans are soon to realize his talent.... his movies include:
The Dark Knight Rises as Bane
Inception
Lawless
Warrior
Rock n Rolla as Handsome Bob
This Means War
The Virgin Queen
The Take
and so many more!

But I have a feeling next year he will be much more widely recognized here when the new Mad Max: Fury Road comes out.
Yes he is playing Max!!! :D

Anyway there are a few skits in the movie where he's on stage dressed as a clown and one day this image popped in my head so if I can build a sturdy armature I'm going to sculpt it.

And lastly my dad is much better. He's out of the hospital AND he quit smoking! So very proud of him. Thanks to all who sent prayers and healing energy his way.

Tom Hardy!

I haven't made an actual post in some time so figured I better get on here and play catch up :D
A couple of weeks ago I saw a post from my local natural foods market advertising that they were going to start selling local art for people without charge. Well that inspired me to try my hand at painting again so I pulled out some canvases I purchased a long time ago and chose the face of Tom Hardy as my guide.
But as time has gone on he's beginning to look less and less like him :) With this painting I'm having to teach myself shading techniques with acrylics to make colors blend together and also since I don't have a guide to go by with the female I'm having to make up a face that is at an angle.
I can't tell you how many times I've gessoed over her! lol Finally I decided to draw the grid you see but now that I'm looking at it her face seems a bit small for her to be standing in front :( Grrr...
Oh and I'm also having to learn how to paint hair to look more realistic. So I have no idea how long this thing will take me but I'm determined to finish it and make it look as right as can be.

Still have loads to do on the guy, too. Hair, shading, beard scruff and try yet again to straighten his nose! lol One of the problems is that the original image I looked off of started the painting at a slightly different angle and the lighting came from the back right side so all of that has changed now.

On to other news! I'm so very happy to announce that Madeline has gone on to her new home in California (Woohoo!) but sad to say nobody wanted Trogg after 2 weeks of eBay (Boo!). I said I was done with eBay before but I think I REALLY am this time.

This week I have to get stuff tagged and ready for the craft show this Saturday. For some reason I'm not feeling it this year.... don't know if my mind is just too preoccupied or what? Also heard it's supposed to storm that day and it's an outside event. Not cool when you have paperclay dolls to display!

It has been over a month and our garden has only sprouted a couple of corn stalks and maybe one okra that I can tell. Also the already established strawberries don't seem to be growing any bigger. Don't know what's going on! Guess I'll have to go back through and push some more seeds into the ground. I have seen a lot of birds and squirrels out there. Wondering if they've eaten the seeds. That still doesn't explain the strawberries though :(

I knew I was forgetting something.... I got some new eyes for my future dolls!

Can't wait to use them :D
I guess that's it for now oh and please send some good vibes, prayers and healing to my dad! He's in the hospital with pneumonia. Still waiting to see what the doc has to say about it and how long they plan on keeping him.

Have a Lovely Week, all!
